Leaves eco-printed on paper

Bio

Susannah Hera is a Chicago-based printmaker and textiles artist focused on combining age-old print and textile techniques with technology and experimentation that results in edgy, glitched-out compositions. She has broad and extensive training in traditional and modern, experimental printmaking methods and a strong command of the fiber arts. Foremost she is an expert feltmaker, but is proficient in multiple dye techniques and other textile practices. Ms. Hera's ongoing series, 'Extremophiles' marries her vast printmaking and textiles training to illuminate the secret world of these ancient, but little understood species and mimic the patterns of their intoxicating alchemy.

Ms. Hera runs Chimera Press with a focus on environmentally conscious art practices and ethically sourced studio materials; her prints, wearable art, installations, and interior design pieces clearly reflect her respectful appreciation and deep dive into the secrets of the natural world. She has volunteered a significant amount of time to many charities and non-profit organizations and served as a board officer with the Chicago Printers Guild as Assistant Director and Archivist (2015 through 2020), initiating and coordinating a multi-year project that resulted in the permanent housing of the CPG archive at Harold Washington, Special Collections. As a result of her substantial research of traditional and ancient textile customs and the restoration and preservation of natural fibers, she has a strong commitment to archival standards and continues to build her knowledge and skillset of these techniques.
